Oatmeal - quick oats or rolled oats? Butter - melted or softened? These things matter. We used rolled oats and softened butter and added raisins. The dough seemed the right consistency after mixing extensively. I baked a test cookie and I'm glad I did. The instructions say to place ball-shaped cookies on the sheet, but ours barely spread and looked more like a mound than a cookie. We ended up flattening these waaaay down, practically to the thickness we wanted them to be when done. They spread very very little. They took 15 minutes to be done. Make sure to leave them on the sheet for at least 15 more minutes to cool or they'll crumble as you're taking them off. The taste was just OK. The only upside is that the cookie dough was safe for my kids to eat during the prep since the recipe has no eggs. Maybe that was the whole point.

However, I'm going back to my favorite recipe from Allrecipes: Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies. I just replace chocolate chips with raisins.

Re: Doctor Play

Hi

Re: Let’s Take a Walk

i thought this was a game for kids . lol so silly

Re: Let’s Take a Walk

i wibhs that i can by in tv

Re: All Aboard!

Daniel is great for kids. My God! Kids are aggressive, especially boys. I'm so sick of this freaking liberal agenda that we have to completely nullify any aggressive behavior. I'm not saying hitting things (or people for that matter) is okay, but tired of sissy's trying to emasculate boys. Boys play rough, it's innate. Encourage them to work out their frustrations into different outlets (running, sports, etc). Or, how about have them take Tae Kwon Do;yes, their are 3-4 year old children practicing TKD and they are well disciplined, and learn how to channel their aggression and also how to defend themselves. And I honestly cannot fathom how pounding cookie dough is bad. For GODS Sake, stop making sissies out of your kids.

Re: “Get out the Mad” Cookies

I agree with JHH. While it's true that we should teach our kids to channel their anger in more productive ways than hitting, "hitting" cookies doesn't seem to be the best way to accomplish this. Instead of teaching them that it's not ok to hit, the real message you're sending them is that it's ok to hit, as long as its not a person. So when they're at school, or at the playground, when there's no cookie dough around, they'll look for other outlets, like hitting walls, or throwing things...not good.

On another note, I just saw the show for the first time today, and I think it's really cute. I love the fact that Mr Rogers legacy is living on. I just hope that careful thought is put into each episode, so our children can pick up good messages that will enhance their character.

Re: “Get out the Mad” Cookies

Not sure I agree with anger and acting out ending up with something yummy like a cookie. Isn't that reinforcing negative behavior?
